Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have to be Vietnamese to join VAHSA?
No, you do not have to be Vietnamese at all to join VAHSA. Our ultimate goal is to unify our community and be able to SHARE our culture; we are more than happy to welcome those of other races and ethnicities to our family!
How do I join VAHSA? Who tracks my volunteer hours?
All high school students are welcome to join VAHSA by joining the VSA at their school (if they are a part of our alliance) or simply attending our events. VAHSA has a record of who signed up and who attended our events, however, your service hours will be tracked by your schools (if they are a part of our alliance). Please email us at vahsasocal@gmail.com to get your hours verified with us within two weeks of the community service event.
How do I donate? What do those donations go towards?
You can donate to our organization by attending our fundraisers, as well as donating via Venmo @VAHSAsocal. These donations go towards organizing community service and social events that aim to strengthen the bonds between students and their communities, and promoting cultural and social awareness.
Who signs off my hours? When should I get my hours signed off?
VAHSA Advisors will sign off service hours at community service events. To get your service hours signed off, please bring the physical copy of your service hour log to be signed in-person or email us a PDF of your service hour log at vahsasocal@gmail.com. After two weeks from the event, VAHSA will no longer be signing off hours.
When are ICC Meetings? Who needs to be present at ICC Meetings? Why is it important to attend these ICC Meetings?
ICC meetings are monthly meaning we typically host one meeting a month! Meetings will be in person! Sometimes, due to inconvenience reasons (holidays, AP testing, etc.), they may be moved or canceled (check our Instagram for confirmed meeting dates) At the moment, we expect TWO board members or representatives from each school in the alliance to be present at ICC meetings! It is extremely vital that you attend these meetings because we go over key information that has happened or will happen, future events, host opportunities for each ‘ally’ to share their current status revolving around their club, and overall bond with one another to ensure that each one of us is doing well!
Who is allowed to run for a board position? Who can apply for the intern position?
Applications for all board positions are reserved for current high school students only (freshmen-senior). Applications for the intern position are reserved for high school underclassmen, from grades nice to eleven (freshmen to junior), excluding seniors.
How does VAHSA plan on keeping their members safe during events?
VAHSA will provide chaperones at all our events. All VAHSA advisors are background checked and will be present at events. If anything happens that makes you or your members feel concerned or unsafe, please notify us immediately. We are here to help you. We will also require participants to fill out a waiver, unless you are a member (VSA E-Board & ICCs will only need to fill out one waiver for the year).
